The Birmingham club’s global partner network also includes representatives from Portugal and Egypt
Aston Villa announced a strategic partnership agreement with the Japanese club Vissel Kobe.
The Kobe club has joined the Birmingham club’s global partnership network, which also includes Egypt’s ZED FC Giza and Portugal’s Vitoria Guimaraes.
As part of this collaboration, the English and Japanese clubs plan to create a “two-way player and staff development system that will promote youth development, as well as the joint exchange of ideas, methods and best practices.” The partnership will aim to “further open up opportunities for talented Japanese players to play in Europe and ultimately at Aston Villa.”
Also, the exchange of knowledge and experience will occur at the levels of coaching and methodological work, as well as scouting, analytics and general team management.
At the end of October, a delegation from Kobe will visit Birmingham. Two Vissel Kobe U-16 talents will train at Aston Villa.
The Birmingham club’s academy team will, in turn, travel to Japan in 2024 to take part in an international tournament.
After 8 rounds of the Premier League, Aston Villa is fifth with 16 points, one point behind Liverpool and four behind leaders Tottenham and Arsenal. In the next round, the Villans will host West Ham.
Vissel Kobe is a club not spoiled by titles. There are only two trophies in the club museum – the Emperor’s Cup (2019) and the Japanese Super Cup. In the J-League, the team’s highest achievement is third place (2021). Vissel is currently leading the championship standings with five rounds to go.
