Shakhtar held talks with ex-Reims coach Oscar Garcia

The Spaniard did not want to head the Ukrainian club

Miner held talks with former Reims coach Oscar Garcia. The 50-year-old Spaniard did not accept the Miners’ offer.

Garcia has previously managed Brighton, Watford, RB Salzburg, Saint-Etienne, Olympiacos and Celta Vigo. The specialist’s last club was Reims, which Oscar left in October 2022.

Shakhtar fired Patrick van Leeuwen as head coach a few days ago. Sports director Darijo Srna has been appointed as temporary coach. According to TaToTake, the Croatian’s headquarters included Carlo Nicolini (physical training specialist), Andrey Pyatov (goalkeeper coach) and Radion Paltsun (analyst).

It was previously reported that the Miners are negotiating only with European coaches. At the same time, it was not possible to reach specific agreements with any of the potential candidates.

Shakhtar ranks third in the UPL, having played one match less than Krivbass and Polesie. On October 21, the Miners will play against LNZ in the Ukrainian Championship. The match will be judged by a team of referees led by Ekaterina Monzul.
