The promoter continues to search for an opponent for the former world champion
Promoter Eddie Hearn said that the team of the former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua offered a fight with the WBA regular champion Manuel Charr.
“This is not a front runner. We’ve been contacted about this fight and I’m sure Charr would love to fight AJ. This is the “regular” WBA world title. This, of course, would not give us the right to say that we are three-time world champions. I don’t know. Is he in the top six? Yes, probably. Is he a front runner? No, not really, but who knows.”
“We have to look at the Hrgovic-Wallin situation and see if we can find our way through it. Agit Kabayel is still a possibility, we considered fighting him earlier.”
“People were talking about Joe Joyce, I don’t see it as a fight. It’s more of a misunderstanding. Zhang Zhilei, I think, is unlikely to be ready in December, but he just wants to fight. He understands that this will not be a mega fight, but he really wants action and wants to get in the ring again.”
The WBA appointed Charr as a regular world champion, taking over the title previously held by Briton Daniel Dubois. A German of Syrian origin has become a potential rival of Ukrainian Alexander Usik. Charr had his last fight in December, defeating Nuri Seferi.
Anthony Joshua has been negotiating a fight with Deontay Wilder for a long time. Previously, Hearn reported that all conditions between Joshua and Wilder’s teams had been agreed upon, all that remained was to determine the location of the fight. The promoter later noted that an agreement on a date could not be reached. Hearn stated that the potential disruption to the fight could be due to Deontay.
