President of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino expressed his condolences to the family and friends of Sir Bobby Charlton .
On Saturday it became known that the legendary Manchester United footballer, world champion of the England national team, died at the age of 87.
“On behalf of FIFA and the global football family, I express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Sir Bobby Charlton. We mourn the loss of one of England’s finest players, a 1966 World Cup winner and football legend whose influence on the game spans generations.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was close to him, his former teammates, the FA and Manchester United,” Infantino wrote on social media.
After his playing career ended, Charlton remained at Manchester United, where he worked as a director for 39 years.
