Michel: The start of the match was bad in terms of concentration, but Dovbik’s goals allowed us to breathe

Girona coach talks about the victory over Almeria and the role of the Ukrainian forward in this result

Girona head coach Michel commented on his team’s brilliant victory over Almeria (5:2) in the 10th round of the Spanish Primera Division, not failing to note the decisive contribution to the result of Ukrainian forward Artem Dovbik.

“The start of the game was poor in terms of concentration, but the first goal got us into the game and we believed we could come back from 0-2.”

“It’s hard to start like that. The first minutes were not very good, they showed that we cannot afford to start matches like that. But then Dovbik’s goals allowed us to breathe.”

“I told the players that it is not the attack phase that worries me, because we can damage any opponent because we have a lot of resources for this. If we can concentrate under pressure after a loss, we will win even more.”

“The goal is to consolidate the team in Example. I hope we will set more ambitious goals as soon as possible, but now my goal is to make the team understand that we need to score points regularly, that is the work day after day that will bring us success.”

Let us remind you that Girona beat Almeria at home, losing 0:2 by the middle of the first half. Before the break, the hosts managed to take the lead – the second and third goals of Michel’s team were scored by Dovbik. Another Ukrainian, Viktor Tsygankov, missed the fight due to injury.

Previously, Michel, who was recognized as the best coach of Primera in September, said that Dovbik had so far revealed his potential only by 60-70 percent, and the loss of Tsygankov was significant, but not insurmountable.

With five goals, Dovbik shares 3rd-9th places in the list of Primera scorers, behind only Jude Bellingham (8) and Antoine Griezmann (7). Artem also has two assists.

The victory over Almeria allowed the Catalans to overtake Atlético and draw level on points (25) with leading Real Madrid. In the next round, Girona will host Celta Vigo on October 27.
