Ilya can also qualify for the Australian Open
Ukrainian tennis player Ilya Marchenko summed up the tournament ATP Challenger Tour 50 in German Hamburg.
“Dennis Novak doesn’t like to play against me because of my style of play and my hitting. I played very well. This was a near perfect match, by far my best of the week. In the first set he had a few chances on my serve, but I served well and played good rallies. Overall I’m very happy with my performance.”
“This is the first time I’ve managed to win two singles titles in one season. At 36 years old, this is honestly quite surprising, but it feels great. With this win, I will most likely qualify for the Australian Open and have a chance to finish the year in the top 150. To achieve all this at the end of my career is just amazing.”
“It was a very good tournament. The organization was perfect. The transfer was always on time, which is very important for us players. The conditions in the hall were suitable for my playing, and the support from the audience was excellent. I’m happy to have been here.”
“Will I celebrate the victory? Today I’m flying to Ortisei, but I’ll definitely find time for some kind of celebration. Winning my 10th Challenger title is a big moment in my career.”
In Hamburg, Marchenko won his second trophy this season. The Ukrainian won the Challenger in Salinas, Ecuador, in July. In total, the 36-year-old Ukrainian won the tenth title at ATP Challenger series tournaments in his career.
In the updated world ranking of tennis players, Marchenko made a leap by 36 positions and is now in 212th place. Vitaly Sachko remains the first racket of Ukraine.
