The 33-year-old Brazilian has spent the last two seasons in MLS
Los Angeles Galaxy announced his separation from the Brazilian midfielder Douglas Costawho previously played for Donetsk Miner.
The contract with the 33-year-old football player will not be renewed. This will open up a designated player slot for the Galaxy for the 2024 season. It is noteworthy that this rule is unofficially named after David Beckham, who moved from Real Madrid to LA Galaxy in 2007.
Costa played for Shakhtar from 2010 to 2015. He has 38 goals and 40 assists in 203 matches for the Donetsk team. Together with Shakhtar, Douglas became the champion of Ukraine five times and won the Ukrainian Cup three times. In 2015, the Pitmen sold Douglas to Bayern Munich for €30 million.
The Brazilian moved to the Los Angeles club in February 2022, first on a sublease from Juventus, and then (from July) on a full-fledged contract. Over two seasons in MLS, he played 51 matches for Los Galacticos (36 as a starter), scored 8 goals, and provided 12 assists.
In May 2023, the court of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul issued an order for the arrest of Douglas Costa for failure to pay child support.. It was reported that if the footballer were returned to Brazil, he would be arrested by any judicial officer or police authority.
Galaxy failed the 2023 regular season, finishing penultimate in the Western Conference (36 points in 34 rounds) and missing the playoffs.
