Athletistic / Football. Chairman of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Referees Commission Pavel Kamantsev has assessed the possibility of Saudi referees working at Russian Premier League matches from the 2023/2024 season.
“Can a Saudi referee work on an RPL match by the end of 2023? I think there will even be several.
Which Russian judge will go on exchange to the Middle East? You know our elite judges, the same Sergei Karasev had already worked in Saudi Arabia. Only, it was just an invitation. We will now agree on the arbitrators with the Saudi side. At the beginning we can talk about the top 5 referees by ranking,” Kamantsev quotes Match TV.
Earlier it became known that the RPL and the Saudi Pro League signed a protocol of cooperation, which includes the exchange of referees.
After Russian armed forces began military training in Ukraine, FIFA and UEFA stopped appointing Russian referees for international matches, citing logistical problems.
