17 league clubs voted for a new contract with broadcasters until 2029
Serie A agreed on a new five-year contract with television broadcasters DAZN And Sky. According to this agreement, the league will receive at least 4.5 billion euros.
Today, October 24, the Serie A clubs voted for the deal with an absolute majority of votes – 17 “for”, two “against”, one abstained. It was previously reported that Napoli, Fiorentina and Salernitana do not agree with the broadcasters’ proposal.
According to the contract, which will come into force from the 2024/25 campaign, the league will receive a guaranteed €900 million each season, with DAZN paying €700 of this as the exclusive broadcaster of seven matches from each round of ten.
In addition to this guaranteed amount, DAZN agrees to share with Serie A half of all revenues in Italy in excess of €750 million per season. According to the league’s general director Luigi de Siervo, this will bring annual revenue from television rights to at least 960 million euros.
In turn, Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis criticized the future deal, calling it “idiotic” for such a long term of the agreement and saying that because of this “Italian football will die.” The Neapolitan club was one of the initiators of creating its own Serie A channel (similar to UPL-TV), but most clubs did not support this initiative.
Napoli are the current champions of Italy. Currently, Inter is leading Serie A after 10 rounds. Following him are Milan and Juventus.
