Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali will only be back on the football field before the start of next season.

The further fate of Sandro Tonali has been revealed. We remind you that the player of the Italian national team, who this summer replaced Milan with Newcastle, had a scandal because of bookmakers.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 23-year-old football player pleaded guilty to betting and expressed his willingness to make a deal with the investigation. The midfielder is expected to be suspended from football for ten months. This period was defended by the player’s lawyers, instead of a one-year disqualification, which the prosecutor of the Italian Football Federation insisted on.

Thus, Tonali will receive a harsher punishment than another participant in the scandal, Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli, who was suspended for seven months. Sandro admitted that he bet on his teams’ victories, first at Brescia and then at Milan, which was an aggravating circumstance.

Also, the Newcastle midfielder faces a larger fine than the 12.5 thousand euros previously collected from Fagioli.

At the same time, as reported by the publication, the investigation did not confirm the evidence of the same Fagioli that Tonali influenced him and somehow forced him to engage in illegal betting.

It was noted that Tonali could lose part of his salary at Newcastle for the duration of the disqualification, but will not be excluded from the team and will be able to train at the English club’s location.

Due to the suspension, the midfielder will only be able to return to the field in September 2024, missing the rest of the season and Euro 2024 in Germany, if the Italian national team makes it.

It is expected that the Italian midfielder’s disqualification could be announced before the Champions League match between Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund, which will take place on Wednesday, October 25.

We remind you that earlier Nicolo Zaniolo and Sandro Tonali were excluded from the Italian national team due to a betting scandal.
