Director General of the Organizing Committee for the 2024 World Friendship Games Alexei Sorokin said that it was possible to organize a football tournament within the framework of BRICS in Russia.
Earlier, President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov said that the RFU was working on the issue of the participation of the Russian national team in tournaments in 2024, including within the framework of BRICS.
— My opinion is that it is impossible to organize the same tournament in Russia as in 2018, taking into account UEFA’s attitude towards us. Some continental events like the BRICS tournament are another matter,” a correspondent reports Sorokin’s remarks.
Russian clubs and national teams have been suspended from participating in international tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine. The Russian national team played two friendly matches in October – against Cameroon in Moscow (1:0) and against Kenya in Turkey (2:2).
