The Association wrote another letter to UEFA
Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) sent another letter to UEFA with a call to respond to the illegal attempts of the Russian Football Union (RSF) to integrate clubs from temporarily occupied territories Ukraine to its championship.
“We are forced once again to address an issue on which we have repeatedly communicated with you over the past year, namely, the illegal actions of the Russian terrorist state and the Russian Football Union in relation to the Ukrainian state and football. In this case, regarding attempts to integrate football clubs from the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine into the Russian national championships, which is now moving forward without any obstacles or restrictions. Despite the legal aspect, according to which UEFA in 2014 granted the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea a special status ensuring its protection from Russia’s aggressive behavior.”
“Recently, Deputy Minister of Sports of Russia Odes Baysultanov said that football clubs from the occupied territories of Ukraine should be included in the Russian championships, also noting that the exclusion of Crimean clubs from the second division of the Russian championship in 2014 according to UEFA requirements was a mistake, and Russia “should not pay attention to the position of UEFA and FIFA.”
“We are more than concerned about how the situation is developing and ask UEFA to take special notice and take decisive action on the above violation, lawlessness and extreme disrespect for the entire football family.”
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko announced the creation of the “Commonwealth” football league, which will include clubs from the so-called Lugansk and Donetsk “people’s republics”, as well as from the occupied territories of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine.
In April of this year, it became known that the occupiers are planning to include football clubs from Crimea in the Russian league.
Earlier, on the basis of the Crimean Football Union, the aggressor country decided to create a separate football championship with the participation of Crimean clubs, as well as representatives of other partially occupied Ukrainian regions.
Let us recall that earlier in October the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) included in its composition the Olympic councils of the so-called “LPR” and “DPR”, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye “Olympic councils”. The International Olympic Committee reacted promptly to this and suspended the activities of the region.
In the early hours of February 24, Russia launched rocket and air strikes on most Ukrainian cities and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The Russian war against Ukraine has continued for the 611th day.
