Honored coach of Russia Gadji Gadjiev responded to the possibility of submitting an application to host the European Football Championship in 2036 or 2040 in Russia.
Earlier, the General Secretary of the Russian Football Union (RFU), Maxim Mitrofanov, announced that Russia is ready to apply at any time to host the European Championship in 2036 or 2040.
“I think this is a completely correct intention on the part of the RFU. But we must not forget that Russia’s possible candidacy will not be the only one under consideration: many will wish to host such a tournament. In any case, regardless of the current circumstances, you must try.
In my opinion, since we are talking about the future, there are certain chances of approval,” Gadjiev said, as quoted by RT.
The 2028 European Football Championship will be held in Ireland and Great Britain, and in 2032 the tournament will be hosted by Italy and Turkey. The UEFA Executive Committee recognized the RFU’s bid to host these two championships as “inappropriate”.
