Warming up to the Libertadores final, Washington remembers Fluminense’s historic moment in Resenha ESPN
The final of the Libertadores, which will be played on November 4th and will be broadcast on ESPN. And, to warm up the decision, Resenha ESPN brought notable characters from both teams onto the field and recalled a historic moment experienced by Fluminense during the competition. The conversation of Washingtonthe Braveheart, and Luiz AlbertoformerBoca Juniorswith the presenter André Plihal and the commentators Fábio Luciano It is Djalminhawill air this Friday (27), at 10 pm.
And, in the program, Washington recalled one of his great moments wearing the Fluminense shirt, in the quarter-finals of the Libertadores, when he scored the historic goal that qualified the team for the semi-finals, in a match against São Paulo.
“That game was memorable. That goal was historic: in the last minute, in the last play, we were going out, then I scored the 3-1 that gave us the classification. It went down in history, in my history, in the history of Maracanã, in the history of Fluminense, because it was so remarkable due to the circumstances as it was. São Paulo had Miranda, Alex Silva, Jorge Wagner, Hernanes, Adriano Imperador, in short, it was a great team. He was the favorite to win the Libertadores! And we lost the first game at Morumbi, so having this comeback after conceding a goal at Maracanã really was very remarkable”said the former player.
That year, Fluminense reached the tournament’s final for the first time, but saw the title slip away in the Maracanã to the LDU from Quito. That campaign, of course, was much remembered throughout this Friday’s Review.
Alongside Washington was Luiz Alberto, a defender revealed by the Flamengo in the early 2000s. In 2010, the player played for Boca Juniors, Fluminense’s rival in this year’s Libertadores final. The former athlete spoke in Resenha about the difficulties faced by a Brazilian player in Argentina.
