Eagles dropped points in home game
Benfica couldn’t beat on home field Kaza Piyu in the 9th round match Portuguese Championship – 1:1.
Late in the first half, Joao Mario gave the Eagles the lead. After the break, the guests had an excellent opportunity to come back, but goalkeeper Anatoly Trubin parried Felippe’s shot from the 11-meter mark.
In the 63rd minute, the referees canceled Benfica’s second goal for offside. And towards the end of the match, the Eagles missed after a hit from Gaizka Larrazabal. Note that Trubin made a mistake in the moment with the missed ball.
For Trubin, this match was the eighth for Benfica in all tournaments this season. In the national championship, the goalkeeper missed three goals in five games.
Benfica tops the Portuguese league with 22 points, but Sporting have a game in hand. Casa Pia is in 10th position in the standings.
Benfica will face Arouca in the League Cup on October 31 and will play Chaves in the league on November 4.
