Schmidt: After our first mistake, Trubin saved the penalty, and the second led to a goal

The Ukrainian played unsuccessfully in the moment with the missed ball

Head coach Benfica Roger Schmidt commented on the loss of points in the match with Casa Pia (1:1).

“Honestly, I’m very upset because we wanted to win the game after losing the Champions League. We wanted to do well and I think we started well, we played good football.”

“We scored the first goal and there were two ways to win: score the second, third or fourth goal, or avoid mistakes in defense and win 1-0. Unfortunately, we were not able to implement these options in practice. We created opportunities but were ineffective and defensively we made two big mistakes. In the first, Trubin saved a penalty, and the second mistake led to a goal.”

Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoly Trubin saved a penalty in the second half of the match. Towards the end of the match, the Eagles missed after a hit from Gaizka Larrazabal. Note that Trubin made a mistake in the moment with the missed ball.

For Trubin, this match was the eighth for Benfica in all tournaments this season. In the national championship, the goalkeeper missed three goals in five games.

Benfica tops the Portuguese league with 22 points, but Sporting have a game in hand. On October 31, Trubin’s team will meet Arouca in the League Cup, and on November 4 they will play against Chaves in the championship.
