Chisora: They may not have raised Ngannou’s hand, but he won

Derek believes the judge’s decision in Fury’s favor was “necessary” for his future fight against Usyk

British heavyweight Derek Chisora commented on the victory of the WBC title holder Tyson Fury over the ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou.

“Everything was cool. The show turned out great. Great discovery, some of the undercard fights were okay. But Tyson vs. Ngannou wasn’t the icing on the cake we wanted. The fight wasn’t great. Now Tyson will doubt himself and it wasn’t a great fight.”

“Of course, this judge’s decision was necessary because the organizers need Fury to fight Usyk at the end of December. Ngannou may not have had his hand raised, but he won. He came out, he boxed, he got tired, but he kept fighting, he survived and he was great. Ngannou won. The guy hasn’t competed in MMA for over a year; he was trained by Mike Tyson. He came here, boxed and survived. Ngannou did better than me. Kidding”.

Let us remind you that on the night of October 29, Fury defeated Ngannou and won the Riyadh champion title. The fight, according to boxing rules, lasted all the allotted 10 rounds, as a result of which two judges gave the victory to Fury, one to Ngannou. In the third round, Francis knocked down Tyson, but the Briton managed to return to the fight.

Legendary former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis called his compatriot’s victory “lackluster.” Promoter Eddie Hearn, like Chisora, believes Ngannou deserved to win.

Fury intends to fight his next fight with WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world champion Alexander Usik. The British promoter Frank Warren said that he cannot yet name the exact date of the fight between Usyk and Fury. The Briton suffered a cut and will need time to recover. Most likely, the unification match will take place in early 2024.

Chisora previously suggested that Fury would fight Usyk in December if he was not injured in the fight with Ngannou.
