David Neres won’t play in 2023 due to meniscus injury

Premier League clubs were actively interested in the player

Winger Benfica David Neres will miss a significant portion of the 2023/24 season.

The player was injured in a recent match with Casa Pia (1:1). An in-depth examination showed that Neres had damaged his left meniscus and would miss several months. In the near future the need for surgery will become clear.

It was recently reported that the Brazilian is close to changing clubs. Clubs from the Premier League and Serie A are interested in the services of the midfielder, for whom Benfica wants to earn about 35 million euros.

Let us remind you that David Neres moved to Shakhtar from Ajax in the winter of 2022, but due to the start of a full-scale Russian invasion, he never made his debut for the Miners in official matches. Neres moved to Benfica last June on a five-year contract.

This season, the Brazilian has made 12 appearances for the Eagles in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing four assists.

Benfica is in first place in the Portuguese Championship standings. Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoly Trubin plays for Orlov.
