FIFA published an official release regarding the former President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales. The organization suspended Rubiales from football activities for three years.
Recall that Luis Rubiales resigned in September. The functionary was previously suspended from football activities due to the fact that he kissed football player Jennifer Hermoso on the lips during the award ceremony at the 2023 World Cup. And the official put her colleague Athena del Castillo on his shoulder and carried him across the field.
First, the FIFA disciplinary committee suspended Rubiales from all football-related activities at the national and international levels for 90 days until the completion of disciplinary proceedings opened against the Spanish functionary on August 24. UEFA decided not to take any action or intervene in the Rubiales case. Also, the organization will not suspend RFEF.
Rubiales refused to resign as president of the RFEF. At the same time, the Spanish national team players refused to play for the national team while the federation has the current leadership.
Rubiales has headed the RFEF since May 2018 and was also vice-president of UEFA.
