Argentinian goalkeeper Aston Villa Emiliano Martinez won the award for the best goalkeeper of the year named after Lev Yashin according to France Football magazine.
The awards ceremony takes place on Monday at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Martinez became a world champion in 2022 as part of the Argentina national team.
Also among the five finalists were Yassin Bounou (Sevilla/Al-Hilal), Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid), Ederson (Manchester City), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona).
France Football created this award in September 2019. The award is named after Yashin, who is the only goalkeeper in history to have managed to win the Ballon d’Or; this happened in 1963.
