Coach Gornyakov is enjoying his first victory at the head of the team, but is already preparing for a difficult confrontation with Dynamo
Head coach Shakhtar Marino Pusic – about his debut victory at the helm of the Donetsk club, as well as about the upcoming confrontation with Dynamo V UPL.
“In a cup match, the most important thing is to win and advance to the next round. It is very important. I’m glad that we succeeded, I congratulated my players, because they put a lot of energy, considering how we played. I am very glad. We controlled the game and had the ball most of the time. Perhaps we still need to improve some aspects, for example finishing attacks, but I am pleased with the way we played, the energy we showed. All the guys deserve praise.”
“I always think only about the first of the next matches, and it took place this evening. I felt that these players would be more energetic because we played a tough match with Barcelona. This is a new team for me, and I also want to see how some of the players perform in a serious official match to get to know them better. I know these players have certain qualities.”
“First of all, the attention is always paid to the next match, so there are three days to prepare for the meeting with Dynamo, and we will see who will play. Whether there will be rotation or not, I don’t know what people think about it, but for me it means that virtually everyone in the lineup will get their chance and opportunity to prove themselves. And I thought that today’s game was a good opportunity for this, but first of all, let me say that I do not underestimate the opponent, but release the players to see them in a real game. Because, as you know, there were only two training sessions, there was not enough time to prepare and study them better. For me, the match makes the best picture, that’s why I did it.”
“Confrontation with Lucescu? I don’t think about such things. I have respect for all coaches, so for me there is no big difference. Of course, I will pay attention to how my opponent acts. This is an important game, a derby, a lot of emotions. I understand that I will be competing with an experienced specialist.”
Let us remind you that Pusic achieved his first victory as Shakhtar’s head coach, beating Victoria with a score of 3:0 in the quarter finals of the Ukrainian Cup. The Bosnian did not field outright backups for the game, limiting himself to spot rotation.
This coming Friday, November 3, Pusic will lead the Miners to a Ukrainian Premier League match for the first time. Shakhtar will compete with Dynamo Kyiv.
Currently, the Orange-and-Blacks are in third place in the championship standings, 5 points behind leader Krivbass, but with two games in hand. Dynamo is in seventh place, but Mircea Lucescu’s team also played fewer matches than its competitors.
