FIFA makes decision on Luis Rubiales

Former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales was provisionally suspended after non-consensual kiss with Jenni Hermoso

Luis Rubiales was banned by FIFA for three years from football. The former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) received the punishment following the decision of the Disciplinary Committee of football’s highest entity, released this Monday, 30.

The Spaniard was banned for the non-consensual kiss in Jenni Hermoso, during the award ceremony for the Spanish team that won the Women’s World Cup. The manager had already been provisionally removed for 90 days.

According to the entity, Rubiales committed a violation of article 13 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. The paragraph talks about “offensive behavior and violations of the principles of fair play” and the punishments talk about:

– Violating the basic rules of decent conduct

– Insulting a person in any way, especially through offensive gestures, signs or language

– Using a sporting event for non-sporting events

– Behaving in a way that brings the sport of football and/or FIFA into disrepute

– Actively change the age of players in identities produced in competitions subject to age limits

Rubiales has 10 days to request a reasoned decision and has the right to appeal to the FIFA Appeals Committee. He was reported by Hermoso for sexual assault and coercion. The former RFEF president cannot contact the player and must stay at least 500 meters away from her.
