The coach of the Ukrainian women’s team commented on the debut victory in the League of Nations and spoke about the tasks for the tournament
Acting head coach Ukrainian women’s team on football Vladimir Pyatenko commented on the debut victory of his players in the group tournament League of Nations. Let us remind you that in the match of the 4th round of Group 3, the Ukrainian team beat the Greek team (1:0).
“The Greeks played at home twice. In their stands they play a completely different football. Although we sorted everything out, they, in principle, did not surprise us, especially in the second game. Before the first match, we knew how they play: they often double up on the flanks, have two players in one position, rebounding and long passes. In the first game we managed, in the second we made adjustments.”
“I think it’s a well-deserved victory. Although it is difficult, it is a victory. We didn’t deserve to lose in the first game either.”
“We have all the data on the functional and physical condition of female football players. Therefore, in some places they refreshed the team, in others they made changes. All the players who were at the training camp were ready to play in both the first and second games. I was satisfied with the players in both the first match and the second. And those who didn’t play in two games. I’m happy with everyone.”
“We go out to win every game: where it works, where it doesn’t. We have six Nations League games, one of the tasks is to review all the candidates. The same Olga Basanskaya was injured, and we managed to replace her at the last moment. Our task is to review all female football players. Task [на турнир] one is to win every game.”
The Ukrainian started in Division B of the Nations League with three defeats. The Ukrainians lost to Serbia, Poland and Greece with the same score 1:2. With the Greek women, by mutual agreement, both matches were played away in the city of Heraklion.
Having scored the first three points, the blue-yellows bypassed Greece and rose to third place in the quartet. According to the regulations, the group winners directly advance to the elite division. Second place gives the right to participate in the playoffs. The fourth position is an automatic demotion.
Vladimir Pyatenko’s team will play the final two matches of the group stage in December – on the first against Poland and on the fifth against Serbia.
The final stage of the Women’s League of Nations, which will also serve as a qualifying stage for the 2024 Olympics, and play-offs are scheduled for the period from February 21 to 28, 2024.
