The Korean defender became the champion of Italy with Napoli, after which he moved to Bayern
Bayern Defender Kim Min-jae recognized Asia’s Best International Footballer 2022.
The award is traditionally awarded to the strongest Asian players competing outside their native continent. The winner was announced at an official ceremony in Doha.
26-year-old Kim became the Italian champion in 2023 with Napoli. Then the player moved to Bayern for 50 million euros, where he immediately became a first-team player. The Korean is the only Asian representative in the top 30 nominations for the 2023 Ballon d’Or.
Also vying for the title of best player were Porto forward Mehdi Taremi and Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma. Let us note that four times over the last 8 years the winner of the award was Tottenham forward Son Heung-min, who, however, this time did not make it into the top three contenders.
