Athletistic / Football. Former Spartak Moscow head coach Oleg Romantsev shared his opinion on Zenit head coach Sergei Semak. The legendary Russian coach appreciated the contribution of the blue-white-blue coach to the team titles won in recent years.
Zenit is returning to form, during which they became champions of Russia five times in a row. But now we hear again that Semak has no merit in this matter. Why then did it not work for Lucescu and Mancini, who were experiencing exactly the same conditions in St. Petersburg? I think either non-footballers or his sworn enemies can dispute Sergei Bogdanovich’s role in this golden series.
This kind of talk about a coach happens when his team starts to stumble. After the departure of Malkom and Kuzyaev, Zenit did not start the season with much confidence, losing points at home, which usually did not happen to them often. Then the enemies rose up, talking about the loss of motivation of the footballer, the satiety of victories and, of course, the miscalculations of Semak himself.
A similar thing happened to my Spartak when we started the championship with difficulty. But then we gained momentum and became champions. I’m confident that Semak has enough experience to head for gold again. In addition, in winter, Zenit will strengthen the attack with the Brazilian Pedro. And we all became convinced that Semak had an instinct for talent after Malcolm joined the club, which many then doubted. But Sergei Bogdanovich insisted on his side. Firmness and consistency in decisions are his working style. But it should be noted that given the current state of Krasnodar, it will be more difficult for Zenit to win a sixth consecutive title,” Romantsev is quoted in Sport-Express.
Sergei Semak took charge of Zenit in May 2018. Under his leadership, the club from the northern capital became a five-time champion of Russia, a four-time winner of the Super Cup and winner of the National Cup.
Zenit scored 26 points in 13 rounds and is in second place in the RPL standings. The Sereg Semak team is two points behind the leader Krasnodar.
