FIFA President confirms 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia

This Tuesday, the 31st, Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, confirmed that Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup, as it is the only competitor in the process

Through your social networks, Gianni Infantinopresident of FIFAconfirmed that Saudi Arabia will receive the 2034 World Cup. The director celebrated the next three editions of the competition, which will have games in 10 different countries so far, and will return to the Middle East after 12 years of the World Cup held in Qatar.

“THE BIGGEST SHOW ON EARTH will be organized by Canada, Mexico and the United States in 2026 – in North America. The next two editions of the FIFA World Cup will be hosted in Africa (Morocco) and Europe (Portugal and Spain) – with three commemorative matches played in South America (Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay) – in 2030 and in Asia (Saudi Arabia ) in 2034”, published the Swiss.

Even with much criticism from coaches, players and fans about the layout of the next World Cups, with more than two host countries, Infantino celebrated this diversity of venues. “Three editions, five continents and ten countries involved in holding tournament matches. This makes football truly global!”he wrote.

The FIFA president’s announcement came hours after the end of the process for the competition to host the 2030 and 2034 World Cups. In the statement, the entity did not treat Saudi Arabia as the winner and official host, but, as it is the only candidate to receive the competition, that is the reality.

However, official decisions will only take place at the next FIFA Congress, which will take place in May 2024, in Thailand. For the 2034 World Cup, the Saudis were the only competitors, as the 2030 World Cup will feature matches in six different countries, but with “fixed” venues in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Australia considered competing with Saudi, but withdrew from the process.
