Borussia Dortmund beat on home field with minimal score Hoffenheim in the 1/16 final match German Cup – 1:0.
The first half of the most high-status confrontation of this stage turned out to be spectacular. Both sides had good chances to score, but the hosts nevertheless took the lead before the break – Marco Reus finished off Jamie Bynoe-Gittens’ cross with a slightly clumsy shot.
The vice-champion played the second half much more carefully, drying up the game and not allowing the opponent to create anything significant in front.
At the very end, Hoffe was left in the minority – substitute defender Ozan Kabak managed to get a second yellow card.
Already on Saturday, November 4, Borussia will host Bayern in the so-called Der Klassiker. The victory will allow the Bumblebees to overtake the champions, who are in second place in the Bundesliga. Hoffenheim (6th position, 18 points) will play at home against championship leader Bayer Leverkusen.
It’s paradoxical, but Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team is performing much stronger on the road this season. Hoffenheim won all five away matches, while at home they lost three times in four matches.
