The English Football Association (FA) has opened an investigation into whether the midfielder “Newcastle” Sandro Tonali bet on football after his transfer to an English club “Milan” this summer, reports Athleticism .
The midfielder joined Newcastle in July. In late October, Tonali was banned from all football activity for 10 months after the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) found him guilty of violating playing rules. FIFA extended the ban internationally.
Tonali admitted to betting on Milan matches. Tonali’s agent, Beppe Riso, admitted in mid-October that his client was suffering from a gambling-related “illness”.
If the FA investigation reveals Tonali, 23, bet on the sport following his move to Newcastle, it could lead to further sanctions for the player, who is allowed to train with the Magpies during his ban.
This season, Tonali managed to play 12 matches for Newcastle, in which he scored one goal.
