Mainz terminated the contract with the winger Anwar El Ghazi. The club said it made this decision in response to the player’s statements and posts on social networks.

Earlier, a Dutch football player of Moroccan origin posted a pro-Palestinian publication on social networks. The player then deleted his post. Mainz suspended El-Ghazi from training and also stated that it distanced itself from the controversial statement in support of Palestine, which does not coincide with the values ​​of the club.

Later, the player openly distanced himself from the Hamas terrorist attacks, which began the current round of aggravation of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Anwar also said that he does not question Israel’s right to exist. At the beginning of October, the club management returned the footballer to training.

El Ghazi became a player for the German club at the end of September. The winger previously left PSV and joined Mainz as a free agent. El Ghazi played in three Bundesliga matches, providing one assist.

Mainz currently sits at the bottom of the standings with three points. The carnival workers have never won in the first nine rounds. In the next match on November 4, Mainz will host RB Leipzig.
