Karavaev: Lucescu really wanted to win this championship

The players learned about the coach’s resignation after the match with Shakhtar

Midfielder Dynamo Alexander Karavaev commented on the resignation of the head coach Mircea Lucescuas well as the team’s defeat in the match with Miner (0:1) in the 13th round Ukrainian Premier League.

“It’s a pity that Lucescu resigned in such circumstances when we lost. He really wanted to finish this championship, to win it, he had big goals and plans, but it didn’t work out.”

“I repeat, this is very unfortunate, because before this there were good times, we played in the Champions League, and became champions, and the Cup, and the Super Cup. In addition, many young people moved to play in other championships – both the club and the players benefited from this. Now we also have a lot of young people for the future, so that in the future these guys can also be recruited.”

“After the match we learned about Lucescu’s resignation. When we entered the locker room he told us about it. Tomorrow we will have a team meeting, then training. When we get together as a team, they will tell us everything about the new coach.”

“When Dynamo plays Shakhtar, you don’t need to tune in too much, because everyone already understands what kind of match it is. We succeeded a lot in both the first half and the second, but we conceded an unfortunate goal. We had a lot of chances, but our execution let us down. As soon as we missed one chance, they scored on us – it’s very annoying.

Every time we analyze the games, it seems like we are doing everything correctly: we play and create chances, but the execution lets us down. And some mistake slips through in defense and we concede goals. This, of course, undermines morale, but there is nothing left to do except to work further and draw conclusions. There are still many matches ahead, they need to avoid repeating mistakes and improve their implementation.”

Dynamo lost to Shakhtar, conceding the only goal from Alexander Zubkov at the beginning of the second half. The Kiev team suffered their 100th defeat in the UPL.

The match with Shakhtar was the last for Mircea Lucescu as head coach. The coach resigned and announced his retirement from coaching.

Dynamo is in seventh place in the UPL, gaining 16 points in 10 matches. The white-blues will play their next match on November 12 against Krivbass.
