After a meeting called by Conmebol, Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the CBF, commented on the Libertadores final and the possibility of the game being played behind closed doors
A Conmebol called an urgent meeting with members of the AFAfrom the CBFof Boca Juniors It’s from Fluminenseto deal with the safety of fans at the final of the Libertadores. The main objective is to avoid episodes of violence, as happened on Copacabana beach this week. Therefore, after the meeting of the leaders, Ednaldo Rodriguespresident of the Brazilian Football Confederation, spoke.
The president stated that peace needs to prevail in such an important sporting event. “It was a meeting to preach peace. Football is joy. Those who are without this purpose better not go to the game. Watch on TV. We go with spirits unarmed from any type of violence and so that both fans can coexist well”, he stated.
Ednaldo Rodrigues confirmed that the match will be held in the presence of the public, with the expectation of 70 thousand fans at the Maracanã. However, this decision can be changed according to the behavior of the two fans, who have been starring in some regrettable scenes of confrontation even before the ball rolls.
“[A presença de público] It will depend on the fans. From now on, fans have to unite around peace because safety is above all. If by chance you don’t have that peace, it’s logical that you can have the possibility of being without an audience.”stated the president of the CBF.
Both clubs have complaints about their treatment of their fans, especially Boca Juniors fans, who have reported certain indifference towards them from Brazilian police officers. In Conmebol’s view, a final without an audience would be a disaster, causing enormous losses, but this possibility still exists.
