Surkis officially introduced Lucescu’s successor; Karas, Gusev and Mikhailov will work on his staff
Alexander Shovkovsky officially appointed acting head coach of Kyiv Dynamo.
President of Kiev Igor Surkis introduced a new coach to the team at the training base in Vita-Litovskaya. At the same time, there was a farewell to Mircea Lucescu, who was present at the meeting.
The length of stay of 48-year-old Shovkovsky in this status is not specified. He will prepare the team for the upcoming matches, and his coaching staff will include Emil Karas, Oleg Gusev and Mikhail Mikhailov.
Note that Shovkovsky already has similar experience in the Kiev club. He headed Dynamo as “acting” from April to June 2023, while Lucescu underwent surgery and recovered from it. Under Alexander, the people of Kiev played 8 matches, winning 6 of them.
In May, the ex-goalkeeper diplomatically avoided answering the question of whether he sees himself as Mircea’s successor at the Kiev club.
Let us remind you that 78-year-old Lucescu resigned after Dynamo’s defeat in the match with Shakhtar (0:1). The coach announced that he had decided to end his coaching career.
The Romanian specialist took over Dynamo in the summer of 2020. In the first season under the leadership of the Romanian, the Kiev team became the champion of Ukraine, and also won the Ukrainian Cup and Super Cup.
The ex-goalkeeper played for the Dynamo first team from 1993 to 2017. Since 2021, Alexander has worked as an assistant coach in the Ukrainian national team. Since January 2023, he has held a similar position at Lucescu’s headquarters at Dynamo.
