Ex-rival Lomachenko Verdejo sentenced to life in prison

He was previously found guilty of kidnapping and murdering his pregnant mistress

Former Puerto Rican professional boxer Felix Verdejo sentenced to two life sentences for the brutal murder of his mistress Keishla Marlene Rodriguez Ortiz and her unborn child.

He was previously found guilty by a jury. It was reported that the court also considered the option of using the death penalty, but rejected this punishment.

According to the court decision, Verdejo, along with his accomplice Luis Antonio Cadiz-Martinez, kidnapped and killed Keishla Rodriguez in April 2021. Initially, the accused did not admit their guilt. Cadiz-Martinez later admitted to complicity and faces up to 30 years in prison.

According to Cadiz-Martinez’s testimony, Verdejo forced the girl to have an abortion, and when she refused, he hit Keishla and injected her with a toxic substance, after which his accomplices tied the victim’s limbs to a concrete block and threw her off a bridge into a reservoir.

Verdejo is a former opponent of Vasyl Lomachenko. The Ukrainian defeated Felix in the quarter finals of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Verdejo (27-2, 17 KOs) last fought in December 2020, losing to Masayoshi Nakatani by technical knockout.
