Zabarny: On the last day of the transfer window, the president told me: “Today you are flying away”

Ilya is happy with the opportunity to test his strength in England

Ukrainian defender Bournemouth Ilya Zabarny spoke about the details of his transfer from Dynamo Kyiv to the Cherries in the winter of this year.

“Transfer to Bournemouth? Yes, I was at the training camp in Turkey with Dynamo, and on the last day of the transfer window the president told me in the evening: “Today you are flying to England, there is a medical examination, they want to buy you.” I say: “Okay.”

“I packed my things, called my parents and current wife and told them about it. They were delighted. Honestly, I was worried. I gave a lot to Dynamo, and Dynamo gave me a lot. I had mixed feelings, but of course I wanted to go and try myself.”

“I signed a contract but I had an injury and that made my start at Bournemouth a bit difficult. I was very surprised by the level of the Premier League, I could only dream of something like this. Every footballer dreams of playing here.”

Zabarny is a graduate of Dynamo Kyiv. The centerback has played for the first white-blue team since 2020. The defender also played 31 matches as part of the country’s national team.

It was reported that Dynamo would earn about £25 million for the defender’s transfer, excluding bonus payments. In addition, the Kiev club will receive 20% of the subsequent sale of Zabarny.

The centre-back has made 13 appearances for Bournemouth in all competitions this season. Zabarny is also the only Vishen player who played all 11 matches in the 2023/24 Premier League without substitution.

Bournemouth are in 17th place in the Premier League. On November 11, Zabarny’s team will host Newcastle.
