Sidorchuk: Lucescu deserved to end his career in Ukrainian football on a more positive note, with the status of a champion and with a cup in his hands

The midfielder was the captain of the white-blues during the coaching period of Lucescu

Former captain of Dynamo Kyiv, and now midfielder of Westerlo Sergei Sidorchuk spoke warmly about working together with the Romanian ex-mentor of the capital team Mircea Lucescu.

“For several days now I have been in a stupor from the news that Mircea Lucescu left the post of head coach of Dynamo. I gathered my thoughts to thank Mister publicly. I couldn’t help but do this, because he is an important person for me and for my family. More than a coach.”

“He gave me a new perspective on football, taught me to see details that I had never thought about before, and made me think about life after my career. By your example, you showed how you should love what you do. I can’t imagine him not playing football, because that’s his life. Who else would sit and rewatch matches looking for their mistakes? Yes, this is a person who always looks for mistakes in himself, and not in others. Many people really miss this.”

“I will never forget how Mister met my family in Bucharest when we needed shelter after the start of a full-scale invasion. He and his wife were very kind to us, we saw each other almost every day, talked – it was very important and valuable for us. They say that in dark times bright people can be seen. As for Mircea, that’s exactly what happened. When he was in the hospital, of course, I was there too.”

“I am sure that Mister deserved to end his career in Ukrainian football on a more positive note, with the status of a champion and with a cup in his hands. But this is life, this is football. He knows what he is doing and at what time. It is a pity that many do not understand his philosophy and approach. Thank you for everything!” Sidorchuk concluded.

Sidorchuk worked under Lucescu’s leadership for more than two years. During this period, Dynamo became the champion of Ukraine, and also triumphed in the Ukrainian Cup and Super Cup.

At the beginning of September, the midfielder moved to the Belgian Westerlo, where he already scored his debut goal. Lucescu resigned after Dynamo’s defeat in the match with Shakhtar (0:1).

Alexander Shovkovsky has been appointed to the position of acting head coach of Dynamo Kyiv. The white-blues will play their next match on November 12 against Krivbass.
