Author of a book on Lionel Messi Journalist Guillem Balagué reported that the Argentinian had refused a salary of one billion dollars, the amount that the Saudi club Al-Hilal was prepared to pay him annually.
Messi has been playing for MLS club Inter Miami since 2023. Previously, the Argentine played for French PSG and Spanish Barcelona.
“Last summer, Al-Hilal’s delegation was in Paris, they had a billion-dollar-a-year contract for Messi, but Lionel didn’t take the offer seriously,” Balague said, quoted by taken offside on his social networks.
Messi won the World Cup in 2022 with Argentina.
