Ex-England and Inter Miami women’s coach signed until 2026
Portland Timbersspeaking in MLSofficially announced the appointment of the Englishman Phil Neville head coach of the team. The contract with him is concluded until 2026.
Phil, 46, is known for playing for Manchester United and Everton. Subsequently, he worked for many years as an assistant coach in the England youth team (under the leadership of Stuart Pearce), Manchester United (David Moyes’ staff), Valencia (started with his brother Gary), and the Canadian national team (2023).
In only two places did Nev Jr. work as a head coach – the England women’s team (2018 – 2021, World Cup semi-finals) and Inter Miami. Phil worked on David Beckham’s team from January 2021 to June 2023, averaging only 1.32 points per game.
The Portland Timbers, like Inter Miami, failed to make it to the playoffs in the MLS regular season that ended. The team, led first by Giovanni Savarese and then by Miles Joseph, finished 10th in the Western Conference with 43 points from 34 matches.
