The Real Madrid goalkeeper needed three fights, the Shakhtar goalkeeper – four
Performance Andrei Lunin in the match Real – Braga and successful actions Dmitry Riznyk in the game Shakhtar – Barcelona – some of the brightest moments for Ukrainian fans in the fourth round of the group stage of the Champions League. Moreover, for each of the Ukrainian goalkeepers these matches became the first “dry” in the most prestigious club tournament in Europe.
For Lunin, the match with Braga is his first in the Champions League this season. A year ago, Lunin played for Real twice against Shakhtar in the group stage. In both matches, the Ukrainian goalkeeper of Cream missed a goal: a victory for Real in Madrid (2:1) and a draw (1:1) in Warsaw.
For Shakhtar goalkeeper Dmitry Riznyk, the match with Barcelona also became the first clean sheet in his Champions League career. Prior to this, the goalkeeper, who made his debut in the tournament this season, missed in all three matches of the first round of the group stage: 1:3 – with Porto, 3:2 – with Antwerp and 1:2 – with Barcelona.
But Benfica goalkeeper Anatoly Trubin cannot boast of keeping clean sheets in the Champions League this season. The Benfica keeper played for the Eagles in all four matches in the Champions League and missed all of them. Benfica with Trubin lost twice to Real Sociedad (0:1 at home and 1:3 away), once each to Salzburg (0:2) and Inter (0:1).
Note that Trubin has gone without a clean sheet in the Champions League for the third season in a row. Last season, while playing for Shakhtar, the goalkeeper missed in each of the six matches in the group stage. In four matches – with Leipzig, twice with Celtic and Real Madrid – the goalkeeper conceded one goal each. In the away match with Real Madrid – two, in the home match with Leipzig – four.
In the 2021/2022 season, Trubin also played in the group stage. True, he took part in three matches. And again – not a single “dry” one. The Gornyakov goalkeeper received seven goals from Real Madrid (0:5 at home and 1:2 away), as well as two goals in the away match with Inter (0:2)
But in the 2020/2021 season, out of five matches played in the group stage, three were clean sheets for Trubin. Trubin kept his goal intact in two matches with Inter (both times 0:0) and in a home game with Real Madrid (2:0). In the remaining two, Trubin received eight goals: six goals from Borussia Gladbach (0:6) and two from Real Madrid (3:2).
