“I haven’t heard much about the Russian national team lately, but I managed to watch their last matches. I know very well that this is a world-class team. Russia has always participated at all international tournaments, often played at the World Championships. For me and for my comrades, it will be a great honor to play a high-level friendly match against such a good team,” said Piedra, quoted by the Championship.
At the end of February 2022, FIFA and UEFA jointly decided to exclude all Russian national teams and clubs from participation in tournaments under their auspices due to the conduct of a special military operation (SVO) by the forces Russian armies in Ukraine.
