Former football player and coach of Kiev believes in his colleague
Head coach Ukrainian national team Sergey Rebrov assessed the prospects Alexander Shovkovsky at the head of the Kyiv Dynamo.
“For any Dynamo coach, this is a very important step. I wish Alexander nothing but good luck and bring Dynamo back to the level it should be at.”
“Will Shovkovsky gain a foothold at the head of Dynamo? It’s all up to him. That’s how I started too. I think we need to start, and then we’ll see. As I said, everything depends on him.”
Let us remind you that on November 4, 48-year-old Shovkovskiy was appointed acting head coach of Dynamo after the resignation of Mircea Lucescu. His coaching staff will include Emil Karas, Oleg Gusev and Mikhail Mikhailov.
Note that Shovkovsky already has similar experience in the Kiev club. He headed Dynamo as “acting” from April to June 2023, while Lucescu underwent surgery and recovered from it. Under Alexander, the people of Kiev played 8 matches, winning 6 of them.
49-year-old Rebrov was Shovkovsky’s partner in Dynamo and the Ukrainian national team. From 2014 to 2017, Sergei was the head coach of the Kiev team, and subsequently he held a similar position in the Saudi Arabian Al-Ahly, the Hungarian Ferencvaros and Al-Ain from the UAE. Since June 2023, Rebrov has been coaching the Ukrainian national team.
Dynamo will play the first match under the leadership of Shovkovsky this season on Sunday, November 12, against Krivbass on the road.
The white-blues are in 8th place in the championship, with 16 points after ten matches. Dynamo has only one point in its last four UPL matches.
