Paolo Maldini is the leading candidate for the post of director of Al-Ittihad

Earlier it was reported that the Milan legend refused the position of sporting director in one of the clubs in Saudi Arabia

Former technical director Milan Paolo Maldini considered the leading candidate for a director’s position in the Saudi Arabian Al-Ittihad.

Let’s remember that in October it was reported that Paolo, who gave the Rossoneri 25 years as a player, refused the position of sporting director in one of the clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Maldini, 55, has been unemployed since June 2023, when Milan officially announced the end of their partnership with their legend. It was reported that the main reason for Paolo’s dismissal was the disastrous summer transfer window.

Maldini has served as Milan’s technical director since the summer of 2019, having previously spent one year as the club’s director of strategic development. He helped the Rossoneri win Serie A in the 2021/22 season.

On November 8, it became known that Al-Ittihad had parted ways with Portuguese coach Nuno Espirito Santo, who had worked at the club since the summer of 2022 and led it to the championship title in the 2022/23 season.

Among the candidates for the post of new coach of the club from Jeddah was the Portuguese Paulo Sousa, who played in Serie A in the 90s, including for Inter Milan.

Today, November 11, Al Ittihad, under the leadership of interim coach Hassan Khalifa, ended their five-match unbeaten streak in the championship, beating Abha Club (4:2) with a hat-trick from Karim Benzema. According to rumors, it was the conflict with the winner of the 2022 Ballon d’Or that became one of the main reasons for the dismissal of Espirito Santo.
