Athletistic/Football. Legendary Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu has said he will never work in Russia again.

“First of all, I want to tell you that my last interview with Russian media was about football, exclusively about football, and not about politics. If I were asked now if I would return to Russia, I would answer that I would never go back to this country.

I don’t want to leave Ukraine as the enemy. I was the only foreign coach who did not leave Ukraine after the start of SVO (the wording was changed in accordance with the requirements of Roskomnadzor), I was with Dynamo and your country all this time. I want to be remembered as a person who contributed to the development of Ukrainian football and Ukrainian sport in general.

I will never return to work in Russia. During my last interview, the journalist and I talked exclusively about football, and he had already thought of all the other questions and answers for me. Remember me as a person who loves Ukraine! » Ukrainian media quote Lucescu’s words.

Mircea Lucescu has been coaching Dynamo Kiev since 2020. In the 2016/2017 season he was head coach of Zenit and led the St. Petersburg club to bronze medals at the Russian Championship. And before that, the Romanian managed Shakhtar for 12 years and helped the Pitmen win the UEFA Cup in 2009.
