The ceremony took place in shelter due to another air raid in Kyiv
The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina and former first racket of the country among men Sergei Stakhovsky awarded the winners and prize-winners of the children’s final tournament of the series Svitolina & Stakhovskyi Tennis Tour U14.
The competition ended at the Marina shopping center near Kiev on Saturday. The award ceremony had to be held in a bomb shelter due to a prolonged air raid.
As part of the competition, four qualifying tournaments were held in different cities of Ukraine, following which the 8 strongest boys and girls under the age of 14 were determined. Daria Bilyk and Egor Nikiforov became champions of the Final Tournament in their categories.
The winners of the competition received grant support and further mentoring directly from Svitolina and Stakhovsky. All participants in the final tournament earned from 18 thousand hryvnia. The winners will receive a grant of 126 thousand hryvnia.
Previously, Svitolina, together with donors of the UNITED24 platform, helped raise funds for the restoration of the Munghausen residential complex in Irpen. Also, the tennis player, together with the famous Ukrainian poet Sergei Zhadan, met with soldiers of the “Charter” volunteer unit.
Elina took a break from performing after being eliminated from the US Open 2023 in the third round. It was reported that Svitolina had problems with her foot, which is why she performed at the event with an untreated injury. The Ukrainian plans to compete at the Australian Open 2024.
