The eighth victory in 9 matches allowed Dnepr-1 to take the lead in the UPL
Head coach SK Dnepr-1 Yuri Maksimov commented on the strong-willed victory over Minerwhich allowed his team to take the lead UPL.
“We had to bounce back, because we missed an early goal, but then we played as we wanted from the beginning of the match, to control the ball more and carry out counterattacks. We equalized the score at the end of the first half, and then it was easier to play.”
“In general, they have a small rotation, they can replace four players, but this time Shakhtar had only one substitution – Konoplya came on instead of Gocholeishvili. And so basically the same guys play. But they had a five-day break before the match, and the Pitmen had the opportunity to prepare normally.”
“We don’t win every match against Shakhtar. This will be an extra day off for the guys.”
In the match at Arena Lviv, Shakhtar very quickly opened the scoring. The Dnipro team fought back before the break through the efforts of Eduard Sarapiy, and at the beginning of the second half, strikes from Alexei Gutsulyak and Bogdan Lednev brought the guests a 3:1 victory.
Dnepr-1 continued its successful streak under Yuri Maximov (who, we recall, led the team during the season). The victory over Shakhtar was the club’s eighth in the last nine league matches and allowed them to take the lead in the table with 30 points.
On November 27, after the international break, SC Dnepr-1 will host Chernomorets.
