The Krasnodar Regional Court remanded the former football player of the Russian national team in custody. Alexei Bugaev in the case of an attempt to sell drugs on a particularly large scale, reports the Telegram channel of the joint press service of the courts of the Krasnodar Territory.
On November 1, it became known that 42-year-old Bugaev was arrested in Krasnodar. The joint press service of the courts of the Krasnodar Territory, referring to the confessions of the athlete himself, said that the ex-player of the Russian national team resisted the police. According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Krasnodar Territory, Bugaev had 500 grams of N-methylephedrone with him during his arrest. The ex-footballer was arrested until December 31, 2023.
Earlier, the athlete’s lawyer Ekaterina Maklichenko told that the defense would appeal to the court demanding that house arrest be chosen as a preventive measure, and that she was also preparing a civil suit and a request to the commission of inquiry to conduct an investigation into the accusations.

A criminal case was initiated against Bugaev for a crime specified in part 3 of article 30, part 5 of article 228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the sanctions of which provide for a punishment of up to lifetime sentence. Previously, Maklichenko told that the Interior Ministry had falsified evidence against the ex-footballer in order to receive a bribe.
The former Russian national team footballer finished his professional career in 2010 at the age of 29. He played 7 matches for the national team and took part in Euro 2004. As a member of Lokomotiv in 2005, he won the Russian Super Cup and became the bronze medalist of the national championship.
