Fiery intrigue in the Brazilian Championship. Six clubs are fighting for the title, the top 5 scorers are Luis Suarez, Hulk and Soares

A team from the Red Bull system can win the first title in history

While we admire the constant tournament somersaults of the Ukrainian Premier League championship in another part of the world – South America – the Brazilian Serie A is on fire. In terms of the level of intrigue at the finish line, this is probably the most unpredictable championship of the 2022/2023 season (in Brazil the tournament ends in early December) .

Let’s start with the main thing. Four or five rounds before the end of the championship – Serie A is also suffering from postponements – six clubs are vying for the championship. The leader is the champion of last season and the most titled club in the country (11 championships) – Palmeiras, but in terms of lost points Botafogo is in first place, and on a par with Palmeiras is Bragantino, a club that is part of the Red Bull system and has never won the tournament before in its history: the best result was second place in 1991.

If we talk about other leaders, Botafogo last won the championship in 1995 (the team has two titles). Gremio’s last victory dates back to 1996, the podium – third place – in 2020. Atlético Mineiro also has two sets of gold medals, the last one in 2021. Seven are in the Flamengo collection, the last one in 2020, the podium – second place – in 2021.

At the same time, at the finish line before pauses for national team matches, Gremio and Palmeiras had the best results. Both teams have won four of their last five matches (one loss). Botafogo, which had an advantage of more than 10 points during the championship, has not won five rounds in a row – four defeats and a draw. Bragantino has scored seven points in the last five matches, Atletico Mineiro – 11.

The situation in the scorers’ dispute is even more interesting, where among the top 5 best snipers of the championship there are three players over 30 years old. Thus, 36-year-old Uruguayan Luis Suarez (yes, that same one) scored 24 points in 29 championship matches in Gremio – 14 goals and 10 assists. The 37-year-old Hulk from Atletico Mineiro has 21 points (13+8) in 30 matches played. The 32-year-old Soares from Botafogo, who once played in Porto, has 16 goals and 4 assists in 28 matches played.

The leader in the competition for the best snipers of the championship is 23-year-old Paulinho from Atletico Mineiro – 17 goals and one assist. The top 5 is completed by 20-year-old Marcos Leonardo from Santos – 13 goals and 2 assists in 27 matches.

So, if you are looking for intrigue and emotions, then after the break for national team matches, we advise you to pay attention to the Brazilian Serie A. The finish here promises to be very bright.
