Artem is one of the leaders of Girona this season
Sports director Girona Quique Carcel spoke about the details of the transfer of the Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbik. The functionary admitted that the purchase of the forward was influenced by Russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine.
“We followed Dovbik for a long period of time when he played for Dnepr-1 in a less competitive and less monitored championship. It was difficult work. The situation that Ukraine is currently going through contributed to the conclusion of the agreement because it allowed us to acquire a player who is of great importance to us.”
Dovbik moved to Girona this summer, signing a contract until 2028. This season, the forward played 14 matches for the White-Reds, in which he scored seven goals and gave six assists.
Girona leads La Liga with 34 points. In the next match, the team of Dovbik and Viktor Tsygankov will play at home against Athletic on November 27.
