The honorary president of Dnepr-1 recognized Kucher’s appointment as unsuccessful, and also compared the current mentor with Mikhailenko and Jovicevich
Honorary President SK Dnepr-1 Yuri Bereza shared his opinion about the team’s current head coach Yuri Maksimovcompared him with previous Dnipro mentors and declared stable European Cup ambitions.
“The arrival of Yuri Maksimov not only gave new life to the game of Dnepr-1, but continued the process of creating a large team. Dnepr-1 was, is and will be a permanent participant in European cups. I believe that with this coach we will be able to achieve the main goal – the Champions League anthem at the Dnepr Arena, of course, after winning the war.”
“The head coach of Dnepr-1 is a good football chess player, a motivator and a pleasant person. I knew Maksimov as a player, but now I know him as a coach. I am sure that he has a great football coaching future. And Maximov will still raise his cups above his head, and not only in Ukraine.”
“We had a bad streak associated with the previous coaching staff, whose appointment was unsuccessful. But now there is a coach who matches the spirit of the team. Dmitry Mikhailenko and Igor Jovicevich were the same. Dnepr-1 is Maximov’s team. He is one of the best options we had before our appointment. I believe that the future lies with him.”
“I would like to remind all skeptics that six years ago we played the first game against Bukovina in the Ukrainian Cup. Then I said that in five years from the creation of the team there will be European Cups, and in ten – the Champions League. I didn’t lie. I feel proud that I kept my promise to my hometown. After yesterday’s match [против Шахтера] My soul is singing.”
Let us remind you that Yuriy Maksimov became the head coach of Dnepr-1 on September 14, replacing Alexander Kucher and his coaching staff. The 54-year-old specialist took over a team that scored five points in four matches, was consistently eliminated from the qualifications of all three European Cups and parted ways with its strongest player, Artem Dovbik.
Under Yuriy, the Dnipro team scored 25 points in ten championship matches, with six of the eight victories coming to a clean sheet. In the 14th round, Maksimov’s team beat Shakhtar (3:1) and went into the international break as the leader of the UPL.
Earlier, Bereza stated that the arrest of former Dnipro President Igor Kolomoisky would not affect the future of the team.
According to recent data, Dnepr-1 is likely experiencing financial difficulties, due to which it will be forced to sell football players in the winter. In particular, they talked about a possible parting with the main asset – playmaker Alexander Pikhalenok.
