The date of the next fight of the Ukrainian ex-champion remains floating
Promoter Lou DiBellarepresenting the interests of an Australian boxer George Kambososannounced the fight of his ward against the ex-world champion in three weight categories Vasily Lomachenko next spring.
“Are there any plans for a fight with Lomachenko? Yes. Early spring,” said the promoter.
“I think George will be better in this fight. I expect more from him,” DiBella added.
Let us remind you that Lomachenko’s promoter Bob Arum previously announced plans to organize a fight between the Ukrainian boxer and Kambosos in Australia in February 2024.
According to manager Vasyl Egis Klimas, the Ukrainian will fight in January, but the name of the opponent will be announced later.
The problem is that the planned fight may not be a title fight, despite the fact that the belts of former absolute lightweight champion Devin Haney became vacant after the latter moved to the welterweight category.
Lomachenko fought his last fight in May 2023, losing to Haney in the fight for the title of absolute world champion. After the defeat, Vasily decided to take a vacation until the end of the year.
In his last fight, Kambosos defeated Briton Maxie Hughes to win the IBO lightweight title. George also became number two in the IBF ranking, which allows him to fight for the vacant title. Third on the list according to this version in lightweight is Lomachenko.
