The Uruguayan midfielder recalled his move to Madrid and his first training session at the legendary club.
Federico Valverde talks about his early days at Real Madrid. The Uruguayan admitted that after signing a contract with the club, he felt like the main football star. But life quickly put him in his place.
Federico remembered his first day in Castilla, which gave him many answers. He was able to make the right conclusions and now became what he is.
“I can name the exact moment when I realized that I was an uncouth. You still have to understand what you need to understand. Just imagine yourself in my place for a second. You are 17 years old. Two years ago you slept in a mattress on the floor, and now you signed a contract with Real. How can you not lose your head here?
When I arrived at Real Madrid, I thought I was Messi and Ronaldo rolled into one. Seriously. But I went down quickly. My first training session at Castilla, I walked into the locker room looking like me. How much I trusted myself. I don’t remember anything about training, everything is in a fog.
But I remember when everyone was getting dressed, I was looking around and taking in everything… and suddenly I noticed what everyone was wearing.
Gucci belts. New Nike, never worn. Louis Vuitton wallets and bags. Do not forget, these are not even legends, not Benzema, not Modric, not Marcelo, but teenagers!
And here I was, sitting there, in my dirty uniform, and I didn’t take off my boots. Everyone went to the shower – and in front of my eyes was Gucci underwear. These damn Gucci panties, here they are! When did they come to them? What is their price?
And I think: at least the ones I have now have no holes. I beg God, if only my mother had checked the underwear beforehand. I remember how I said to myself that night: “Oh, you dork, who do you think you are? This is Real Madrid! Do you think you’re Cristiano? You’re not Cristiano,” Valverde wrote for The Player’s Tribune.
We remind you that BMW has previously distributed cars to Real Madrid players.
